The brief

The story did not start in Jaffa. The chandelier at the heart of this project once hung in Uri Geller’s former home in England, where Elite Chandelier Services had already cared for it, packing it down, crating it, and hand cleaning every individual piece before it was returned.

So when Geller set about building his museum inside one of the oldest buildings in Old Jaffa, a thousand year old hall of cross vaulted stone on the Mediterranean coast, he knew who to call. A couple of years after that first job, the phone rang. Geller wanted his chandelier to take pride of place in the new museum, and he wanted the same team to reinstall it.

The work

Relocating and reinstalling a crystal chandelier of this scale is exacting work. Every arm, drop and fitting was cleaned by hand, the piece packed and crated for the journey, then carefully raised and installed at height inside the vaulted hall.

The setting adds its own demands. Old Jaffa sits on the coast, where humidity and salt in the air are unforgiving on crystal and metalwork, so expert handling and a flawless finish matter more, not less. The Elite team carried out the work from start to finish, with Managing Director Albert Richardson Nelson leading on site.

The result

The chandelier now hangs as the centrepiece of the Uri Geller Museum, framed by the ancient stone arches that draw visitors from around the world. For Albert, whose family firm has handled commissions over swimming pools, on balconies and in theatres since 1910, it stands out as a career highlight.

In their words

“The captain, the maverick, the genius who helped me put up this chandelier.”  Uri Geller

“This beautiful chandelier came out of Uri’s former home in England. We packed it up, crated it, and made sure every individual piece was cleaned by hand.”  Albert Richardson Nelson, Managing Director, Elite Chandelier Services

“I’ve been running my family company since 1910, and I’ve had commissions all over the world. But this was the most exciting one I’ve ever had, really exciting from start to finish. And look at the result.”  Albert Richardson Nelson
